Fantasy Football: Week 8 Waiver Wire Targets 2021

By Pat Pitts

The villainous Bye weeks have crept up on the 2021 fantasy season to team up with the villainy of injuries. Week 8 is a big swing week during a fantasy football season as we are now halfway through 2021 which is incredibly hard to believe. Let’s look at who you should be targeting on the Waiver Wire this week.

Tua Tagovailoa (Rostered in 43% of ESPN leagues and 49% of Yahoo leagues)

Tua played well in his return to action. He threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions against the Falcons in London. He has a tough matchup against the Bills this week, but plays the Texans the following week, so claim him now to reap the benefits as your QB’s Bye week approaches.

Mac Jones (Rostered in 14% of ESPN leagues and 32% of Yahoo leagues)

Jones played his best game as a rookie against the Jets on Sunday. He threw for 307 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jones proved to be a solid streaming option for teams dealing with Bye weeks as he faces the Chargers, Panthers, and Browns over the next three weeks.

Carson Wentz (Rostered in 22% of ESPN leagues and 38% Yahoo leagues)

Carson Wentz led the Colts to an upset win over the 49ers on Sunday night, as he threw for two touchdowns and found the end zone on the ground as well. The Colts play the Jets and Jaguars in two of their next three games, so Wentz deserves a spot on rosters for the next few weeks.

Running Backs

Kenneth Gainwell (Rostered in 26% of ESPN leagues and 23% of Yahoo leagues)

Miles Sanders left the Eagles’ game against the Raiders with an ankle injury in the first half, launching Kenneth Gainwell into an RB1 role. He played well gaining 61 total yards along with a touchdown in an increased role. The Eagles use Gainwell in both run and pass plays, making him a valuable asset in PPR leagues and a decent FLEX option with more RBs on Bye weeks.

Samaje Perine (Rostered in 7% of ESPN leagues and 8% of Yahoo leagues)

Perine contributed to the Bengals big win over the Ravens with 11 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown. Cincy may be the best team in the AFC North and if Perine continues to be involved in the offense, he’s a decent FLEX stream for the Bye week blues.

Brandon Bolden (Rostered in 5.5% of ESPN leagues and 7% of Yahoo leagues)

The Patriots have increased Bolden's role each week behind Damien Harris, which he capitalized on this week, catching six passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. Bolden continues to outperform Rhamondre Stevenson in the Patriots RB2 role, making him a decent FLEX start for the next few weeks.

Wide Receivers

Allen Lazard (Rostered in 5% of ESPN and 5% of Yahoo leagues)

Lazard finished as a Top-14 WR this week, catching five passes for 60 yards and a touchdown. Davante Adams is extremely questionable for Thursday night after being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, making Lazard a MUST adds this week.

Randall Cobb (Rostered in 14% of ESPN leagues and 9% of Yahoo leagues)

For the same reason Lazard is a must add, you have to put a claim in for Cobb this week.

Kendrick Bourne (Rostered in 3% of ESPN leagues and 7% of Yahoo leagues)

Bourne proved to be more than a valuable WR off of fantasy waivers this week as he threw a touchdown to fellow WR Nelson Agholor. His four catches and 68 yards launch him into a starting lineup next week as a quality FLEX play against the Chargers.

Tight Ends

C.J. Uzomah (Rostered in 10% of ESPN leagues and 20% of Yahoo leagues)

Uzomah has caught five touchdowns over the last four weeks. He’s clearly a big component of the Bengals offense and needs to be rostered and started in fantasy leagues across the board.

Mo Allie-Cox (Rostered in 13% of ESPN leagues and 17% of Yahoo leagues)

Allie-Cox caught all three of his targets on Sunday night against the 49ers, including one for a touchdown. Wentz relies on his TEs, making Allie-Cox a valuable player sitting on the wire.

Foster Moreau (Rostered in 6% in ESPN leagues and 3% of Yahoo leagues)

Moreau helped the Raiders beat the Eagles, catching six passes for 60 yards and a touchdown in place of the injured Darren Waller. When Waller returns, Moreau’s value will disappear, but he’s a fun desperation addition to your roster if you can manage to hold him.
